In total, there were four mills constructed in order to smelt lead ore (Galena) from the Grassington Mines. These included the Low, High, Moor and Cupola Smelt Mill’s. Once the ore had been mined and crushed, the material was heated to a high temperature in order to extract the pure lead into pieces or “pigs”.
